responding to prisoner requests

From Melody:

We received a request for information from a prisoner in PA this week.  (These are usually from NC; this is the first one I recall from an out of state prisoner.)

We used to receive these more often.  I contacted Raleigh and was advised to respond to these with a letter instructing the inmate to contact his case manager for the information.

I drafted a letter to be used to respond.

You need only add the inmate's name and address and mail, returning the inmate's letter of request with our letter.

A copy of the letter is attached and a copy is also available in the "Information Division" folder in Common.

study room policy update

Three study rooms are located on the second floor at Headquarters.  The primary use of these rooms is tutoring and group study.  An additional room, designated for use only by Rowan County Literacy Council tutors, is located to the right of the Fulton Street entrance on the first floor of the library.

1.   Reserve rooms on the calendar at the Information Desk up to one month in advance.

2.   Ask the library user to sign in with the date, time, and name on the study room form.

3.   Limit the use of the room to 2 hours if someone is waiting to use the room.

EPSON Scanner is back in business!

Our Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner is back in business.  It's a bit cumbersome, but Viktoriya has figured out a work-around so that it will work on Citrix.  This same process would apply if you plugged in a digital camera.
Go to Start > Programs > Multimedia > Microsoft Clip Organizer

Go to File > Add Clips to Organizer > From Scanner or Camera...

Click on OK

One more time

Choose "Print Quality" if printing.  Click on Custom Insert.

Click Scan.

Picture will be saved in a new folder (EPSON Perfection V30/V300) created under My Collections.  You can copy it and save it elsewhere if you'd like.

soliciting

From Jeff:
Re: group soliciting in the parking lot and in the building of headquarters.
Do not just do an incident report.  Confront the group or individuals and let them know that soliciting on library grounds is against our policy.  Ask them to leave.  If they do not leave call the police.

computer lab staff computer back-up

EXTREME COMPUTER LAB COMPUTER ISSUE EMERGENCY PLAN…
We found out from IS today that if the computer lab staff computer freezes and you’re dead in the water with no hope in sight, you can log on to another computer at the reference desk using the computer name.  This will gain you access to all of the programs on that computer including PC Res and LPT-One Print Release.  It’s inconvenient, but at least it’s a back-up plan so that we’re not completely unable to release print jobs and issue guest passes.
