Known issues with Sony Reader, NOOK GlowLight Plus, and Adobe Digital Editions

OverDrive recently upgraded more of our services to HTTPS as part of our continued commitment to security and privacy. While this process was seamless and invisible to the vast majority of users, it resulted in compatibility issues for some older devices and software versions. We apologize for the inconvenience, and have provided solutions and alternatives below (wherever possible).

Sony Reader WiFi
Sony Reader WiFi devices no longer allow users to download eBooks directly on the device. Users can still download library eBooks to the Sony Reader software on their computer, then transfer eBooks from their computer to their Sony Reader.

NOOK GlowLight Plus
Users cannot currently open library eBooks that they've transferred to the NOOK GlowLight Plus. Barnes & Noble is aware of this problem and working on a fix, which should be released in a future device software update.

Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)
Some users have had problems downloading eBooks using Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) 2.0 or below. As a solution, we recommend always using the latest version of ADE (currently version 4.5). Some Windows XP users have continued to experience issues after upgrading ADE, so they may still have difficulty downloading library eBooks. Microsoft discontinued support for XP in 2014, and unfortunately there is no solution for these users at this time.

New Copier, Summer Reading, Reference Weeding

The new copier has handy instructions next to it, thanks to Hope. We are still dealing with the issue of patrons accidentally printing 11 x 14 paper. Pam has emailed the information booklet to everyone.

Please refer any adults who are interested in logging their summer reading hours to Abby or Gretchen. The next event is Monday 6/27 here at HQ. Please refer to to Abby or Gretchen with any questions or inquiries.

Notices have been placed on all the Reference shelves stating to leave pulled reference books on top so they can be noted for circulation. Eventually we will be downsizing the print reference collection and moving towards e-reference sources. Abby will take care of the reference shelving, though please feel free to notify her when there are materials to be shelved.

free. These titles are yours to keep and are perfect for teen readers
and adults alike. Each Thursday morning http://audiobooksync.com/
will be updated with the week’s current titles so be sure to bookmark
the website. You can also sign-up to get notifications of when the FREE
audiobook downloads are available*. You can receive alerts by text
message, email newsletter, at their website.
synchead-150x150*Please
Note: Signing up for these alerts will not send you the titles. The
alerts will simply tell you when and where the title is available to
download.

To promote the launch of the SYNC program this week’s Professional
Book Nerds Podcast is all about audiobooks as well. You can subscribe to
our podcast on iTunes, on Android devices, or you can listen to it directly in your browser.

SYNC is dedicated to introducing the listening experience to the teen
audience and demonstrates that Required Reading can be completed by
listening. The program is sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and titles are
delivered through the OverDrive app. Download the app in advance to
whichever device you anticipate listening on and be ready to go!

Summer Reading Info

So Summer Reading is ramping up, and here's what you need to know:

Registration has begun for Children and Teens, but for Adults, the process of logging hours here on the website will register them for prizes, and this isn't available until the official start date of June 10th. Should any adults be unable to log their hours themselves, please give them the contact info for any of the Adult Summer Reading Team (Abby ext# 8248, Gretchen #8232, or Marian #7732) and we will log their hours for them.

The Summer Reading Program runs from June 10th, with events for all ages, and ends August 8th.
